State Road 9B (SR 9B) is a planned four lane divided highway that will eventually connect Duval and St. Johns County from the I-295 East Beltway to County Road 2209 (St. Johns Parkway).
The corridor is divided into three phases.
Construction on Phase 1 began in summer 2010. The northbound lanes of the new roadway from Philips Highway to the I-295 East Beltway opened to traffic September 19, 2013. Southbound lanes opened September 20, 2013.
Construction began on Phase 2 in spring of 2013. Phase 2 of State Road 9B is being constructed from Interstate 95 to Philips Highway (U.S. 1). The Florida Department of Transportation has formed a Public-Private Partnership which has advanced construction on Phase 2 of SR 9B.
A Project Development & Environmental study is underway on Phase 3 of SR 9B. Phase 3 construction is now funded to begin as early as late 2015.
